Ajay Singh

We used Tamron’s 70180mm f2.8 DiIII VXD lens for over 4 months.
Tamron’s 70-180mm f2.8 Di III VXD lens is said to be suitable for a wide range of situations, including events, fashion, weddings, macro photography, and for video purposes too.
As a result, we decided to shoot in almost every scenario we could think of.

Here’s a link to the full video, watch it, have fun, and let us know what you think.

At the end of the blog, there’s a link to raw Images which you guys can download.

So, first, we went into nature and tried to capture things in the macro. To take advantage of Tamron’s 70-180mm f2.8 Di III VXD lens with full macro functionality, I had to switch the camera to manual mode and lock the lens to 70mm and you get MOD (minimum object distance) of 0.27m and the MOD will be 0.85m throughout the zoom range.

We were pleased with the lens’s macro capability, we took all macro shots handheld, and I must say that the lens is light, it weighs only 810gms, compared to Sony’s 70-200mm F2.8 lens, which weighs 1,045gms without a tripod mount.

During the test, we shot almost everything handheld.

The next step was to use Tamron’s 70-180mm f2.8 Di III VXD Lens for Fashion and Portrait photography. We approached a couple of friends and they were ready to collaborate.
We shot mostly outside, and the results were bokehlicious.
The lens is quick and precise.

The best part of zoom lenses is that one can take candid pictures while doing street photography, you capture your subject in that zone, you don’t have to go close to them and make them conscious.
To capture these candid moments we went to a Market yard based in Pune, Maharashtra. and we got some excellent candid images. My personal favorite is the once captured by Vinzy and we named the images Golden Aunty. Do let us know in the comments which one is your favorite capture out of the lot.

Yes, we tried our hands on weddings too. Again the zoom range helped us click a lot of candid pictures and the focus was pinpoint.
The compact and light-weight body helped us shoot telephoto, the linear motor AF drive focus mechanism, VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) helped us get fast and precise AF performance.

If you see carefully, we have composed a few frames in a backlit condition.

Tamron says its BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) Coating is used to suppress ghosting and flare and to render subjects in exacting, full-contrast detail even under backlit conditions, and it did.

Overall it was a good experience and I would say that Tamron’s 70-180mm f2.8 Di III VXD Lens, will definitely be a gamechanger for event photographers, as it’s very compact and lightweight and He/ She can shoot handheld full day.
Focus is accurate & fast which will again come in handy for event photographers as they can afford to lose the moment as it cant be re-created.

I hope this was informative and helpful to at least some extent. Do let us know if we have missed out on anything or there’s something that you guys want to know, do drop a comment.
Lastly, we have uploaded a few raw images for you guys to download and be the judge.
Thank You.
